My Life Flashed Before My Eyes

And it didn't take long at all! Yesterday (I guess I have to say that now since it is after midnight) I was running late going to the Central District Student Ministries meeting (regional youth pastors meeting of the Evangelical Free Church - we call it CDSM for short) at Hidden Acres Christian Camp. I was driving west on U.S. Hwy. 30 in between Ames and Boone and this lady who was waiting for a semi to turn left onto Hwy. 30 (for those of you who read this and live outside of Iowa or haven't traveled that road - it is a divided highway, and the speed limit is 65 MPH).

She slowly pulled into my lane waiting to go across to the other side of 30, I hit my brakes and move to the inner lane - she starts to go into that lane. I am cringing at this point and praying. I lay on the horn and swerve over to the shoulder and miss her - she almost clipped me in the side. God bless her.

I rejoice because of God's faithfulness and protection. This was a reminder to me that we have to be ready. We never know when our time on earth is up. Are you ready? I know I am. I don't want my kids and wife to have to go through that, but I am ready. I have confidence that at the moment of my death (hopefully later rather than sooner) I will be home. I will be with Jesus.

"Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death," (Hebrews 2:14-15, NIV).

We don't have to be afraid if we have trusted Christ as our Lord and Savior. He died for us, so that we don't have to fear death, and can have abundant life now, (John 10:10), and eternal life in the next, (John 3:16-17; Romans 6:23).

Are you ready?
