HF 611 Passed

HF 611, the comprehensive sex education bill, passed through the Iowa House tonight 54-40. While I am still not happy with the legislation. I do not believe it is necessary, and the only ones who truly benefit from it is Planned Parenthood. I am thankful that two amendments (H-1493 and H-1496) were passed that helped bring a little more clarity to the bill.

Also props to these legislators who spoke out in opposition to the bill, and offered amendments that would offset the harmful aspects of the bill:

• Representative Betty De Boef (R-Keokuk)
• Representative Dave Heaton (R-Mt. Pleasant)
• Representative Mike May (R-Spirit Lake)

• Representative Jodi Tymeson (R-Winterset)
• Representative Cindy Winckler (D-Davenport) - she supported HF 611, but I am thankful that she offered H-1496.
