Wasting Time On The Clock
Fox News reported today about a Salary.com survey which found that employees waste almost two hours (actually 1.7 hours) of every workday. Shoot, I waste way more time than that. I'm just kidding. Bernie, if you read this, I'm kidding. Seriously... I'm kidding.
Well what are people spending their time doing instead of say... work?
Another thing comes to mind. We need to be sure that we honor the Lord in our work, even if we don't enjoy our job, even if we are disgruntled. You think you work for the boss? Wrong. Forget that, it is the wrong attitude to have. Scripture says that we have a Boss with much greater authority.

The top time busters are using the Internet, socializing with coworkers and conducting personal business.Actually, this is an improvement - in 2005 the average time wasted was over 2 hours. It is also pointed out that idleness isn't always negative.
And, he (Bill Coleman of Salary.com) added, idling isn’t always anegative. Socializing with colleagues can create bonds that make them work better together, and keeping up with current events by reading thenews can be valuable in certain on-the-job situations, according to Coleman.A couple of things come to mind here. The first is balance. We need to be sure that we are maintaining proper balance in life. It is a fallacy that someone will win the rat race. We need rest. Jesus said that the Sabbath was made for us. A day of rest. God modeled it for us in creation. Perhaps if better balance is struck (which I think is something that is found when we swing from one extreme to the other) we'll be less apt to do this during the work day.
Companies should look on wasted time as comparable to a recess for adults, which can make them more productive in the long run, he said.
“There is always room for wasting time during the day,” he said. “At some point, you have to step off the treadmill and recharge the batteries. … Not all wasted time is a net loss.”

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ, (Colossians 3:23-24, ESV).
