Tragedy in Minneapolis

I heard about the I-35W bridge collapsing into the Mississippi River earlier this evening on the radio in my car. When I was watching Fox News tonight as I was working out on the elliptical trainer I heard at least seven confirmed dead and 60 people transported to area hospitals. In the midst of the horror of all that was a school bus carrying 60 elementary-aged children. I heard this bus fell some 64 feet and was one of the few vehicles that landed on all four tires. Out of 60 kids only 12 had to go to the hospital and of those only 2 were in critical condition. I can definitely see the hand of God in that and we can praise Him for that bright spot.

We can also praise God for people who were first responders, volunteers who transported victims to the hospital in their own cars, people who dove into the river to pull people from vehicles risking their own lives. We can also praise God for the quick response of area fire departments and specialized rescue teams. Also we can praise God from the the blood and monetary donations that are streaming into the Twin Cities Red Cross. I also heard an interview of a woman who was right behind that school bus, and her mother who was driving decided to pull off right before the bridge because she had to use the restroom, praise God for that.

In saying that I do not want to diminish the tragedy of all of this. Please pray for the families and friends of those who passed away. Pray for those who are in the hospital tonight, pray that God would bring healing to their physical brokenness. Pray for the doctors and nurses who are treating those who were hospitalized, pray for wisdom for them - that God would guide their hands and give clarity of mind. Pray for the pastors & hospital chaplains who respond to the victims and their families, that God would give them words of comfort. Pray for the safety of those rescue teams still on the scene. Pray that God would use this tragedy even though it seems bleak for good and for His glory.

"Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need," (Hebrews 4:16, ESV).
