Iowa Senate Extends Civil Rights Protection to Gays

The Des Moines Register reports that Iowa Senate passed SF 427 32-17 yesterday that now extends civil rights protections to homosexual, lesbian, and transgender persons. One of my major concerns with this bill is that is does not make an exception for religious organizations that are not considered a church or a school, organizations like SOY, Youth for Christ, and Hope Ministries. If this bill passes the Iowa House it will be signed into law by Governor Culver. Christian organizations (ones that are not churches or schools) will then be forced to consider hiring homosexual employees who apply and approve homosexual volunteers which would compromise our mission.

The last chance to stop this legislation is with the Iowa House. Please
contact your representative. If you have time contact them all. Best yet, if you have a chance, go to the Statehouse to lobby your representative. The members of the Iowa House need to hear from us!
